Carol has been training and assessing Mountain Training Awards in Cumbria and Scotland for over 20 years.

"carolclimb" run friendly professional training courses across the Lake District and Northern England from their base in Wasdale.

The Hill and Mountain Skills Scheme's are new scheme's to give a practical introduction to the skills required to get started in hill walking and mountain walking.

Hill Skills

Who is it for? Hill Skills is designed for beginner hill walkers.

What does it cover? A practical understanding of how to plan walks, become familiar with the use of a map and learn about the equipment required. You will also gain an understanding of the effects of weather, how to deal with emergencies and gain a valuable insight into the upland environment.

Programme. Two fantastic days of navigation and learning. Exploring the gentler hills in the quiet part of beautiful Wasdale.

Mountain Skills

Who is it for? Walkers who are interested in applying their countryside walking skills to the mountain environment.

What does it cover? Skills in map and compass, mountain weather forecasting, movement through steep ground, planning and preparation, emergency procedures, seasonal effects and the mountain environment are all part of the syllabus.

Programme. Two days honing your mountain skills in the glorious fells of Wasdale. Day 2 we will ascend Scafell Pike by one of the less travelled routes. ( conditions permitting ).
