We are based in a peaceful 18th Century farmhouse in the Marron Valley Lamplugh between the mountains and the sea. This is the quiet side of the English Lake District away from the crowds and the queues. We are quickly into the beautiful and remote Ennerdale and Buttermere valleys or the sea cliffs of St. Bees Head. Walk with us on ancient paths and byways that packhorse traders and peddlers used when Whitehaven was the gateway to America and the Indie's. Now start to the C2C coast to coast cycle route and footpath (St. Bees.). Do one of the classic climbs or scrambles of the Lakes. Scramble or climb on to the tops of some of England's highest mountains, Scafell and the lonely Pillar Rock and Great Gable. The Wasdale valley was the birthplace of English rock climbing. Napes Needle climb it or thread it, Napes Ridge it's almost an alpine route. Victorian classics not just greasy grooves and chimneys, but airy slabs and face routes that make you wonder at their skill and nerve. Trace the history and development of rock climbing through to the modern day test pieces of Dave Birkett that just make you wonder. Scottish classics on Ben Nevis, in Glen Coe, Cairngorm, Skye and Torridon. Tower Ridge, Curved Ridge, the Aonach Eagach the spectacular Cullin Ridge are just a few of the exciting ways up and across these superb mountains. Paddling we have kayaks, open canadian canoes and sea kayaks, go on a journey or work on your skills. You should be able to go away with a B.C.U. ( British Canoe Union) Star award with a few days tuition. We use Windermere, Coniston, Derwentwater and Ullswater, but if you want to get away from those speedboats and steamers. Come with us onto the quiet gems Thirlmere, Buttermere, Bassenthwaite, Crummock Water, Ennerdale and Wastwater. |
